Q&A
Your questions about architecture and engineering
Everything you need to know before hiring an architect or civil engineer.
A question with no answer?
I will respond personally and promptly to assess your situation.
When you want to make changes to floor plans or building volumes, the architect can offer you various options for redesigning them and guide you through the entire process, from the bidding phase to the completion of the project.
If you encounter or have concerns about potential defects, don’t wait for the situation to get worse! An engineer can identify the root cause of the problem, analyze it, and develop a technical solution to resolve it. Additionally, during renovation projects, an engineer can address any concerns regarding the building’s structural integrity.
1) I have received your description of the problem, including illustrations.
2) We will schedule a site visit together and I then provide you with a quote.
3) I will conduct a status study based on the available data at the time of the visit.
4) I will send a report containing a detailed analysis and a solution to the problem. This document serves as the preliminary design.
5) [If applicable] Creation of new plans based on existing ones to present the projected state of the property.
6) [Optional] If desired, a cost estimate for the work can be prepared, and requests for bids can be sent to various contractors.
7) [Optional] Site visit with prospective contractors and selection of the contractor.
8) [Optional] Start of work by the contractor and monitoring of the work.
9) [Optional] Inspection of the completed work and issuance of a provisional and/or final acceptance report, depending on the project.
In practice, the fee ranges from 6% to 12% of the total cost of the work, depending on the complexity of the project.
According to FABI, hiring a professional engineer costs between 9% and 13% of the total project cost, or between €85 and €150 per hour, depending on the complexity of the task at hand.
Risks are systematically presented and explained to the client in advance through consultation and in-depth analysis. My role is to provide sound recommendations and clarify the issues at hand in order to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the challenges encountered across all technical aspects of construction.
These two roles go hand in hand for all projects:
– An architect’s role is to bring to life what has been imagined and then drawn up on plans. They propose spaces, materials, and colors to their client. They are the project manager.
– An engineer’s role is to design a project so that the final product functions correctly according to the objectives set by the architect and the client. They are responsible for all technical and structural aspects.
